Campamento Base para la Empresa TOMO. CORP.

Este es el punto de partida de un conjunto de instalaciones a ser construidas en las 25 ha. de bosques de pino en las faldas de montania frente al lago Inawashiro en la prefectura de Fukushima. El cliente es presidente de una compania que ha tenido por anios sus oficinas centrales en Tokio desde donde el senior Tomoka ha trabajado de maniana a noche. Luego de viajar a Londres y vivir alli por dos meses, se dio cuenta que podia manejar su empresa a distancia y penso que no habia ninguna razon para seguir viviendo en Tokio.

Si ademas mejoraba su calidad de vida, sus capacidades mejorarian en beneficio de su empresa. Asi decidio mover solo las oficinas centrales a la montania quedandose sus empleados en la ciudad. Reubicando su compania pagaria impuestos para la zona rural y no para Tokio, una buena forma de devolverle la mano a la sociedad ademas.

Las viviendas contemporaneas japonesas han dejado de ser un producto de interes para la historia, sin importar lo que hagan sus creadores ni cuanto esfuerzo pongan, ya no son mas que un contenedor para el consumo de vida. Las casas tradicionales son “cool“ porque exactamente en ellas partio la produccion, son una respuesta objetiva de su epoca. Diseniar siguiendo la moda no tiene mayor relevancia en ese sentido.

Este campamento explora las posibilidades de vida utilizando como elementos base, la luz (energia), el agua, la tierra y la tecnica. Entendiendo el territorio natural como un ciclo. Tecnologicamente dos tubos de acero corrugado (reciclados de tecnologias civiles para la canalizacion subterranea) son llevados a la superficie y utilizados como "fundaciones moviles (no empotrada al terreno)". El tubo sur almacena el agua de lluvia y el norte funciona como habitacion. Estos a su vez sostienen una armazon-plataforma tambien de acero que finalmente alberga una chimenea habitable de 3m2 posada sobre un jardin flotante de 230m2 algo asi como una utopia o mapa del individuo y su cosmos. La construccion ejecutada por el mismo laboratorio de Ishiyama incluye ademas a la familia del duenio lo que acerca el producto al cliente, entendiendo su funcionamiento y pudiendo repetirlo por su cuenta en un futuro. Abrir la tecnologia, integrar al usuario en la comprension y construccion de su entorno no es solo democratizar sino que ademas es romper con las dependencias, es dirigir la arquitectura hacia otras disciplinas e intercambiar con ellas. La individualidad propia del siglo XX pierde fuerza frente a los actos colectivos del siglo XXI, las comunicaciones e intercambio global, asi como el catalago de Fuller disparan al infinito las posibilidades y alcances de esta nueva comunidad.

Extension Jardin Infantil Hoshinoko

El proyecto Hoshinoko (nino de las estrellas) , referido al libro “El Principito” se trata de un jardin infantil en la estacion de Inadatsuzumi a las afueras de Tokio desarrollado por el Laboratorio de Osamu Ishiyama en 2002. El proyecto original se define con un basamento de aluminio mas bien racional y regular. El esfuerzo tecnologico se concentra en la cubierta que corona el edificio con la imagen de un ser, una especie de monstruo que opera en el imaginario infantil. Osamu Ishiyama entiende las limitaciones de la tecnologia utilizada por las empresas constructoras tradicionales, por lo que recurre a la tecnologia naval. Esta operacion no tradicional no solo abarata costos sino que abre nuevas posibilidades plasticas influenciando al entorno. Toyo Ito utilizo posteriormente la misma compania en la Mediateca de Sendai.

Como contraste me toco desarrollar la extension del jardin infantil destinada a una nueva sala de reuniones y un primer piso de camarines para las profesoras. Aqui optamos por una imagen mas bien hermetica, una especie de roca al medio del anonimo paisaje residencial. Varios vectores en movimiento cruzan el predio, agregando ruido y distorcion. El nuevo edificio es afectado por lo figurativo del edificio existente y por lo arido del entorno. Un vacio agricola ayuda a transportar su influencia hasta la estacion de trenes distante unos 200 m. A traves de un unico ojo se genera un dialogo con la estacion que se observa a la distancia, esta abertura alargada completa su expresion. La tecnica elegida es la artesanal, estructura en madera y estuco se oponen a la sinuosidad en acero de la cubierta. Tecnologia local y global conviven en controlada friccion intersectando la fantasia con la realidad.

Nowadays the economy map of the world is changing and the big power areas are moving to different zones. China is already The big new power economy and India is also conforming this new economical map. 20 or 30 years later another silence areas until now will awake and take part in this new scenario. In general the south of the world can have more character than now.

Transportation of culture has changed from the past in the information era, If 500 years ago latin culture travel from Europe to America by ship very slowly, now a days the connections and transportations of information its takes just seconds. This project try to get close and transport latin American culture to east asia area.by creating an intersected new space in the nearest point from the pacific ocean, Tokyo`s Harbour. The project want to show the latin American spirit more than visible things. From the most important latin American writer, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, was chosen his “cien anos de soledad” story to recreate the latin american atmosphere in Tokyo harbour scape, the result is a Cultural Transfer Station as an intersection point between Asia and Latin world and the re-edition of Tokyo harbour scape .

Taking part in this time, I realized that an area called “Kanda” is a place compacting all the interesting characteristics of Tokyo. In these days of modernization, this place still leaves buildings as old as 100 years old; and the scenery, in which the architecture both traditional and Modern Tokyo, It is completely different from a western town; the ever changing town of chaos.
The first difference that could be pointed out between Tokyo and a western town is that Tokyo is always changing. Western buildings stand as they are for hundreds of years, whereas those in Tokyo are often reconstructed. There is a physical reason for this, that is to say western constructions are built with strong materials such as stone and iron, when those in Tokyo are made of wood. However, I felt that there also is a difference in idea, cultural and religious.
Compare a Christian church and a Buddhist temple, for example. Churches are never reinforced or rebuilt periodically like temples are. This is based on a Chrisitan philosophy that preaches, “the sacred must be forever”, On the other hand, does transformation matter largely to Buddhism? Westerns strongly believe in eternity. Strong materials are used because the precious must be eternal. But Japanese do not depend on eternity or the invincible. Buddhism respects the state of “nothing”, and holds an idea that there is an end to all things.
I found another interesting point in traditional houses of Kanda. Those houses were gloomy even during the day, and it seems like light hardly ever shine in brightly. So I recalled a previous visit to a temple, when I was surprised at first by the gloominess of the altar. In churches, contrarily, light shines in from up to above. I asked a Japanese friend who came with me, “Why is it so dark in a sacred place? She answered, “Probably because it feels more solemn and has inapproachable sanctity with darkness rather that brightness, and because it has a feeling of reality, not fantasy”., which took place on a small alley like above where tradition and the new mix together, took advantage of these traits. I thought it was a very valuable workshop, with people of all ages participating and experiencing their own culture. I took experienced many things that cannot be experienced by making buildings. I would like to thank Osamu Nishida and all others who played part in this workshop.
